Gasp!Hansel and Gretel were wrapped up in Vlad Tepes' web of deceit, too!?!I'm loving the book so far...I didn't get as far with it on the plane as I'd thought, so I'm going to use it as a prop in my ploy to be the mysterious, bookish American woman on the Kecskemet cafe scene...And my new buddy Anna (a 2nd year student from Mexico) has already determined that it's her god-given mission to find me a Hungarian boyfriend, despite the fact that Mommy warned me against such things. Did I tell you? She said twice, once on Tuesday and once at the party not to marry a Hungarian, that they were only after my citizenship. Shockingly close-minded and old-school, even for Mommy, eh?Love you!
My darling Jiminy is referring to Elizabeth Kostova's new bestseller The Historian, a large portion of which takes place in Budapest. I'm THRILLED to realize that the same copy I read last month is currently being read in Hungary!Jiminy, you should ALWAYS listen to Mommy's wisdom. ALWAYS. I always do, after all -- which reminds me, I have a free counseling session tomorrow.
